Of foliage design, the diamond-set stylized matte-gold leaves centering upon circular- cut sapphire anthers, accentuated by the bombé base of turquoise cabochons, to the brushed stem and branches, mounted in 18K yellow gold, circa 1950, signed Sterlé Paris, no. 5711, with French essay and maker’s mark, size 74.00 x 50.00 mm

Pierre Sterlé is particularly renowned for his designs during the 1940s and 1950s. His asymmetrical style of jewelry was widely used with a combination of precious and semi-precious gemstones in his favorite motifs, such as birds, wings, feathers, animals and flowers. Some of his famous theme designs included "angel wire", a mesh of sorts which he created in 1957. As someone who thought of himself as a highly exclusive French jeweler and designer, he refused to display his jewels in window cases open to public view. His pieces were thus produced for, and seen by, only a select few.
