Spinel is one of few colored gemstones with a wide range of colors that are entirely natural. They require no special treatment and are nearly free of visible inclusions. Additionally, spinel exhibits fluorescence when exposed to UV light. The presence of UV light can cause its inner material to literally glow like neon, as in the case of electric-blue Paraíba tourmalines
