Gianmaria Buccellati (1929-2015), the honorary president of family-owned Italian jewelry company Buccellati, was born in 1929 in Milan, 10 years after his father Mario Buccellati opened the first Buccellati boutique. Passionate about the jewelry profession, in 1973 Gianmaria Buccellati established the Italian Gemological Institute with a group of colleagues, and served as president of the organization for the next 25 years. He contributed his life to the jewelry industry and helped grow the reputation of Buccellati outside of Italy. For instance, Gianmaria Buccellati expanded the brand with a flagship store on Place Vendome in Paris, spearheaded the launch of its first watch collection in Geneva in 2001, to name a few. In 2014, Buccellati launched a 6,480-square-foot new store concept in New York with a showroom and event space. This immaculately designed brooch is a truly representative exhibit of Buccellati’s retro-inspired works.
