Comprising five pale white jade and semi-translucent pendants, each character is well carved in high relief on both sides (5)
a) A pendant carved with a standing wise man with an infant perched on his shoulder, details of his robes finely incised;
b) Carved as an openwork plaque of a butterfly above the character ‘Shuangxi’, bearing the rebus of double happiness;
c) Carved as an openwork plaque with an auspicious creature entwined in foliage with its head faced upwards on the front, framed in a ‘Ruyi’, representing luck and foresight;
d) A plaque carved in openwork as double-sided fine engraving of an auspicious bat ‘Fu’ surrounded by pierced scrollwork of ‘Lingzhi’, bearing the rebus of good fortune and longevity;
e) A pendant shaped in a coiled mythological beast ‘Pixiu’, its body is decorated with cloud-like designs, as a pair of wings, signifying wellbeing and virtues
