RESULTS OF THE MAY 2014 FINE JEWELS AUCTION
Luxeford’s spring Fine Jewels Auction was held in May 2014 at the heart of Hong Kong’s Central Business District. Both the preview exhibition and the auction saw the participation of a great many eager attendees, attracting a high level of attention from connoisseurs, clients and industry buyers alike.
Lot 733, one of our season’s highlights, an 19.30-carat sapphire and diamond ring, enticed fierce competition amongst many and was sold at HKD 1.08 million, five times higher than the low estimate. The natural Ceylon (Sri Lankan) sapphire is of intense cornflower blue color, very clean clarity and has no indication of thermal treatment.
Lot 890, a fancy-colored diamond and diamond ring, was sold at HKD 768,000. The trio of fancy vivid yellow, fancy blue-gray and fancy orangy pink diamonds, weighing 1.07, 1.06 and 1.01 carats respectively, exhibit concentrated and even colors as well as lots of sparkle.
Lot 884, a jadeite and diamond ring, sold for HKD 624,000, double the low estimate. The beautifully-domed and well-polished jadeite cabochon unveils its classy, vivid emerald green color and high translucency.
Lot 847, a 5.09-carat Padparadscha sapphire and diamond ring, was sold at HKD 264,000, also twice the low estimate. The gorgeous orange-pink Padparadscha is accentuated by the finely-set purplish pink, light bluish-violet, green, grayish-green, yellow, orange, peach and light brown sapphire bombé quarter-hoop.
Pieces from foremost jewellery houses also fascinated supporters of their own. Lot 742, a fancy Bulgari ladies’ diamond wristwatch, was sold at HKD 108,000, close to two times the low estimate. Lot 749, a Mikimoto conch pearl and diamond ring, was sold at HKD 336,000. The conch pearl’s evenly distributed baby pink color is intense and lively, its natural flame-like pattern easily noticeable.
Pursue of exquisite pieces of dazzling colors continue. Lot 750, a 12.26-carat Tsavorite garnet and diamond ring, was sold at HKD 576,000. Lot 757, a set of sapphire and diamond jewelry comprising 108.90 carats sapphires, was sold at HKD 1.5 million. Lot 796, a set of jadeite, ruby and yellow diamond Jewelry, was sold for HKD 168,000, close to three times the low estimate.
Lot 866, a 6.03-carat Colombian emerald and diamond ring, was sold at HKD 660,000. Last but not least, Lot 821, an 11.35-carat Spessartite garnet and diamond ring, with its intense sepia/ brownish-orange color-changing principal stone of scarce size, was sold at HKD 72,000.

Mr. Edmond Chan, the Head of Jewelry Asia at Luxeford: this season sees a natural flow of interests for fine colored gemstone pieces and diamonds alike. With stylishness, refinement and versatility in mind, we have gathered an array of vibrant and fascinating pieces that evoke the senses.
A captivating necklace, suspending a 34.46 carat modified emerald-cut fancy intense yellow diamond of VS2 clarity accentuated by a total of 67.30 carat diamonds – the brilliant-cut diamond border to the heart-shaped diamond bail within a diamond-set surround, to the necklace set to the front in garland design with pear-shaped and brilliant-cut diamonds, extending to the graduated diamond-set back – has a pre-sale estimate of HKD 14 million.
A handsome pair of Colombian emerald and diamond ear pendants, the pear-shaped emeralds weighing 19.72 and 20.18 carats respectively, enhanced by brilliant-cut diamond surrounds and links, joined to the surmounts, are presented with an estimated value of HKD 8 million.
A mesmerizing 5.66 carat unheated Kashmir sapphire ring flanked by two 1.51 carat diamonds, calling for an estimate of HKD 2.2 million.
Another focal point, an exquisite pair of natural pearl and diamond ear pendants of art-deco design, each bezel-set old circular-cut diamond surmount, articulated links and cap suspending a drop-shaped slightly cream pearl, measuring 10.55 x 10.65 x 16.60 mm and 10.10 x 10.30 x 17.00 mm, have an estimated value of HKD 1.4 million.
Set with a total of 208.60 carats unheated Mozambique pigeon blood rubies, the gorgeous set of ruby and diamond necklace and ear pendants are estimated at HKD 960,000.
Invariantly nestling the motif of colors, a very fine necklace comprising 574 vari-toned natural pearls, estimated at HKD 2 million; a gorgeous fancy vivid yellow, fancy blue-gray and fancy orangy pink diamond ring, estimated at HKD 680,000; a remarkably large 12.26 carat unheated Tsavorite garnet and diamond ring, estimated at HKD 480,000; a beautiful 19.30 carat unheated Ceylon bright cornflower blue sapphire and diamond ring, estimated at HKD 200,000; a dazzling 5.09 carat unheated Padparadscha, colored sapphire and diamond ring, estimated at HKD 120,000; a charming violet jadeite and diamond ring of vivid lavender color, the jadeite finely polish and of very good translucency, accentuated by the pavé-set diamond rim to the bombé half-hoop, has a pre-auction estimate of HKD 100,000. All are exquisite pieces to collect.
Further items of interest include: a 5.53 carat F color and VVS clarity diamond ring; a 47.80 carat cat’s eye chrysoberyl ring and diamond ring; a 20.96 carat black opal and diamond ring; a 25.89 carat unheated Mozambique Paraiba tourmaline and diamond pendant necklace, and a Mikimoto conch pearl and diamond ring.
