In 1967, British geologist Dr. Campbell R. Bridges discovered the beautiful gemstone in the mountains in northeast Tanzania. It was illegal then to export the stones from Tanzania. In 1971, he discovered the brilliant green gemstone for the second time, in Kenya, where mining of such was eventually permitted. The name ‘Tsavorite’ was proposed by the former president of Tiffany & Co. Henry Platt, in honor of the Tsavo National Park and the Tsavo River along the East African bushland.
